Fe-CuNi Type J Thermocouple Wire for Industrial Processes with Moderate Temperatures
Fe-CuNi Type J Thermocouple Wire is a widely used temperature sensing element made from a positive leg of pure iron (Fe) and a negative leg of Copper-Nickel alloy (CuNi), also known as Constantan. Type J thermocouples are particularly valued for their high sensitivity, affordability, and reliability, making them ideal for various industrial and scientific applications.
Fe-CuNi Type J Thermocouple Wire is an affordable and reliable temperature-sensing solution for moderate-temperature applications. Known for its high sensitivity and good performance in reducing or inert atmospheres, it is widely used in industrial heating, chemical processing, and general-purpose temperature monitoring. However, it has limitations in high-oxidizing conditions and at very high temperatures, where its performance may degrade due to the oxidation of the iron leg.

-210°C to 760°C (-346°F to 1400°F).
Ideal for low- to moderate-temperature measurements.
Type J thermocouples are highly sensitive with a thermoelectric voltage of approximately 55 µV/°C at 0°C, making them suitable for precise temperature measurement.
Positive Leg (Fe): Pure iron, offering good thermal conductivity but prone to oxidation at higher temperatures.
Negative Leg (CuNi/Constantan): A copper-nickel alloy, typically 55% copper and 45% nickel, which provides excellent stability and resistance to corrosion.
High output and stable voltage within the temperature range, ensuring reliable and consistent readings.
Iron Leg: Resistant to oxidation in reducing and vacuum environments but prone to rapid oxidation in high-oxygen or oxidizing conditions at higher temperatures.
Copper-Nickel Leg: More resistant to oxidation, though the alloy can degrade in extremely high-temperature oxidizing conditions.
Type J thermocouples are generally less expensive than other thermocouple types, such as Type K, making them an economical choice for applications with moderate temperature ranges.
The iron leg of Type J is magnetic, which can be a consideration in some specific applications, such as when operating in magnetic fields or where non-magnetic materials are required.
