Introduction
The non-magnetic drill collar is made of low carbon high chromium manganese alloy steel. After strict chemical composition refinement, mechanical properties are obtained by forging. When the magnetic field intensity is 1 × 105 / 4 area / m, the relative permeability bias of the non-magnetic drill collar is less than or equal to 1.010. The magnetic induction gradient of non-magnetic drill collar at any interval of 100 mm along the inner hole is ≤ 0.05
Non magnetic drill collars have unusual design requirements, which result in unique corrosion resistance problems. The drill collar is the bottom part of the drill string. The weight of the drill collar produces the force on the drill bit, which makes the drill bit drill out. However, the rigidity of the drill collar makes the force transfer not buckle. Traditional drill collars are made of alloy steel and, like the rest of the drill string, their corrosion usually does not cause any problems, except for their threaded connections. A typical drill collar is 30 feet long and 4 to 9 inches in diameter.
Advantages
Because all the magnetic measuring instruments can sense the borehole geomagnetic field when measuring the borehole direction, the measuring instruments must be in a non-magnetic environment. However, the magnetic data obtained by drilling tool with magnetic field are often unable to be measured correctly. The non-magnetic environment can be realized by using non-magnetic drill collar, which has the characteristics of drill collar in the drilling process.
