Advantages
Since all magnetic measuring instruments sense the borehole's geomagnetic field when measuring the direction of the borehole, the measuring instrument must be in a non-magnetic environment. However, in the drilling process, the drilling tool is often magnetic and contains a magnetic field, which affects the magnetic measurement instrument and cannot obtain correct wellbore trajectory measurement information data. The use of non-magnetic drill collars can achieve a non-magnetic environment, which has the characteristics of drill collars during drilling.
Introduction
The non-magnetic drill collar is made of low carbon high chromium manganese alloy steel. After strict chemical composition refinement, the mechanical properties are achieved through forging. When the magnetic field intensity is 1×105 /4πA/m, the relative permeability of the non-magnetic drill collar μr≤1.010. The gradient of the magnetic induction intensity of the non-magnetic drill collar at any interval of 100mm along the inner hole is ≤0.05μT.
Non-magnetic drill collars have unusual design requirements and therefore bring unique corrosion resistance issues. The drill collar is the bottom component of the drill string. The weight of the drill generates a force on the drill bit on the drill generates to make it drill in. The stiffness of the drill allows the force to be transmitted without bending. Like other drill strings, conventional drill collars are made of alloy steel. Except for threaded connections, there is usually no problem with their corrosion. A typical drill collar is 30 feet long and 4 to 9 inches in diameter.
