Standard Specification for Electric Fusion Welded Nickel and Nickel Alloy Pipe

Abstract

This specification covers electric fusion welded pipe suitable for high-temperature or corrosive service. The pipes are designated into five classes namely Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, Class 4 and Class 5, according to how they are to be welded. The joints shall be full penetration double-welded or single-welded butt joints employing fusion welding processes. The furnished pipe shall undergo heat treatment and a chemical analysis shall be employed for both plate and weld. Each pipe shall be subjected to transverse tension test, transverse guided weld bend test and hydrostatic pressure test.

Typical applications of Incoloy 825 Seamless Pipes include phosphoric acid evaporators, chemical processing vessels and piping, pickling equipment, etc. A stabilizing anneal of Incoloy 825 Welded Pipes is carried out in the temperature range 1700 Degree F / 1800 Degree F (930 Degree / 980 Degree C), followed by rapid cooling, to provide optimum corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. Incoloy 825 EFW Pipes has excellent resistance to both reducing and oxidizing acids, to stress - corrosion cracking, and to localize attack such as pitting and crevice corrosion. Incoloy 825 ERW Pipes has good mechanical properties from cryogenic temperatures to moderately high temperatures.

Rigid set-ups of Inconel 825 EFW Tubes are essential with as short a stub drill as feasible. Inconel 825 ERW Tubes can be readily welded by the shielded metal - arc process using alloy welding electrode 135, the gas shielded arc processes using alloy filler metal 65, and the resistance welding processes. All standard machining operations are readily performed on Alloy UNS N08825 Pipes and Tubes, which is reasonably easy to machine.
