H-shaped steel is an economical and efficient section with more optimized section area distribution and a more reasonable strength-weight ratio. It is named because its section is the same as the English letter "H". Since all parts of the H-beam are arranged at right angles, the H-beam has been widely used for its advantages of strong bending resistance, simple construction, cost-saving, and light structural weight in all directions. Its characteristics are as follows:
1. Wide flange and large lateral stiffness.
2. Strong bending resistance, about 5% - 10% higher than I-beam.
3. The two surfaces of the flange are parallel to each other, making the connection, processing, and installation simple.
4. Compared with welded I-beam, it has the advantages of low cost, high accuracy, low residual stress, no need for expensive welding materials and weld detection, and can save about 30% of steel structure manufacturing cost.
5. Under the same section load, the weight of the hot-rolled H steel structure is 15% - 20% less than that of the traditional steel structure.
6. Compared with the concrete structure, the hot-rolled H steel structure can increase the service area by 6%, while the dead weight of the structure can be reduced by 20% - 30%, reducing the design internal force of
the structure.
7. H-shaped steel can be processed into T-shaped steel and honeycomb beams can be combined to form various cross sections, which greatly meet the requirements of engineering design and production.
 

The Chinese hot rolled H beam is a kind of hot rolled structural steel section which are widely used in buildings, ships and bridges. H-beams are also known as “H-sections”, “universal columns”, “wide flange beams”, or “W-section I beams”. The H-shaped section is a very efficient form for carrying both bending and shear loads in the plane of web. The application of hot rolled H beams will reduce the end-product weight, cut down expenditure. The Chinese hot rolled H beams feature good mechanical properties, rational profiles, and less internal stress. Besides, they are standard-sized, well-shaped and reliable.
