The Cisco Nexus 5500 platform has the hardware capability to support Cisco FabricPath and IETF Transparent Interconnection of Lots of Links (TRILL) to build scalable and highly available Layer 2 networks. The Cisco Nexus 5500 platform can be used as a Layer 3 switch through the addition of a routing module, enabling customers to deploy Layer 3 at the access layer.
