This sunbelt ground cover weed barrier for nurseries and greenhouses is UV stabilized and permeable to air and water and a low-cost, ecology-safe alternative to herbicide use. Holds up in the light. The most cost-effective and safe way to control weeds and grasses in your production field or greenhouse is to stop sunlight from aiding their growth. Woven black polypropylene. Water permeability of garden fleeces
Water permeability depends on two factors: the ground and the fleece.
Highly compacted soils, loamy soil and stoney soil all have very poor water permeability. Even a highly water-permeable fleece will not improve the permeability. We recommend you check the soil beforehand, and, as far as possible, loosen any compacted soil.
Normal thermally-bonded, spunbonded fabric has a slow water permeability, which depends on the thickness of the material. With thinner material (1.5 oz/yd²) water passes through quickly. With a thicker fleece (4.5 oz/yd²) it takes much longer. Every fleece should be thoroughly watered after installation to improve permeability.
One solution is the GardenMate Hydro garden fleece, which enables very fast water permeability even with thick material, due to a technical innovation.
UV resistance
UV resistance means the resistance of the material to ultraviolet light.
A simple polypropylene spunbonded fabric is fundamentally less resistant to UV light. This means that the fleece is degraded by the sun over time.
GardenMate applies UV inhibitors to all of its spunbonded nonwovens to protect them from this (but won't completely stop it from happening).
It is important that you follow the instructions when laying our fleeces in order to ensure the long-term durability of the GardenMate garden fleece as a weed barrier.
