Because the ground cloth can prevent the direct sunlight to the ground (especially the black ground cloth), at the same time, the solid structure of the ground cloth can prevent weeds from crossing the ground cloth, thus ensuring the inhibiting effect of the ground cloth on the growth of weeds.
2. Remove water from the ground timely and keep the ground clean. The drainage performance of the ground cloth ensures the rapid discharge of ground water, and the gravel layer and middle sand layer under the ground cloth can effectively inhibit the reverse infiltration of soil particles, so as to ensure the surface of the ground cloth clean.
3, Be conducive to plant root growth, prevent root rot. This action also comes from the woven laying structure of the ground cloth, which can ensure that the root of the crop does not produce water, so that the root of the air has a certain mobility, thus preventing root rot.

Water permeability of garden fleeces
Water permeability depends on two factors: the ground and the fleece.
Highly compacted soils, loamy soil and stoney soil all have very poor water permeability. Even a highly water-permeable fleece will not improve the permeability. We recommend you check the soil beforehand, and, as far as possible, loosen any compacted soil.
Normal thermally-bonded, spunbonded fabric has a slow water permeability, which depends on the thickness of the material. With thinner material (1.5 oz/yd²) water passes through quickly. With a thicker fleece (4.5 oz/yd²) it takes much longer. Every fleece should be thoroughly watered after installation to improve permeability.
One solution is the GardenMate Hydro garden fleece, which enables very fast water permeability even with thick material, due to a technical innovation.
UV resistance
UV resistance means the resistance of the material to ultraviolet light.
A simple polypropylene spunbonded fabric is fundamentally less resistant to UV light. This means that the fleece is degraded by the sun over time.
GardenMate applies UV inhibitors to all of its spunbonded nonwovens to protect them from this (but won't completely stop it from happening).
