Pipe cap is used to stop the flow by block off the end. It is available in buttweld end, socket weld end and threaded end. The latter two are forged fittings, and buttweld cap is wrought. BW caps have large dimension range than forged type, it ends is further divided into plain and beveled. And according to the different technique, it also has seamless cap and welded cap.

No matter among buttweld pipe fittings nor forged pipe fittings, the most popular and extensive used stainless steel is grade 316 and grade 304. Both are Austenitic stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance and high strength. However, the specification for forged fittings is ASTM A182, while for buttweld fittings is ASTM A403.
Compared their chemical composition, we konw ASTM A403 WP316 contains Mo while A403 WP304 not has. This is an element that added to help resist corrosion to chlorides, so SS316 corrosion resistant better.
