4 ounce and 6 ounce e-glass fiberglass cloth are most common style of glass fiber fabric used by surfboard manufacturer around the world. It is a very cost effective material. 4oz fiberglass cloth roll is usually used for shortboard building and 6oz is always for longboard.

When glass a surfboard, this ligh weight cloth is always be used in a number of combinations. For example, builders often lay 2 layers of 4oz fibre glass cloth on the deck of surfboard and one layer on the bottom for standard shortboards. However, for heavier footed surfer and some longboards, surfboard builders will blend two layers: 6oz and 4oz on the deck, then one layer of 4 oz or 6oz glass fabric on the bottom.

When need a little more strength it can be two layers of 6 ounce cloth on the deck and another one on the bottom. It is also common way for longboard building where builders need more strength but still want the weight down.

Unionfull's 4oz e-glass fabric is called 6522 fabric which is 125g/m2 and 0.12mm thick. It is woven in plain weave. Density of 4oz fabric is different around the world. Surfboard Glassing Schedule

How to glass a surfboard? Glassing is an important step in which some layers of fiber glass cloth are applied to the surfboard. There will be 3 layers of 4oz or 6oz totally applied to the board, usually two on the top and one on the bottom.

First you need to pour 2/3 resin in a pool down the center of the surfboard. Then moving this resin out to the edges with your squeegee. Please move the resin but not scrape it so the fibreglass cloth remains impregnated enough. When the top is wet out, pulling the resin down from the stringer to the edge.

Look at the sides to check if there are any spots of glass cloth that still seemed white. If so, use the leftover resin in the bucket as needed to fully saturate everywhere on the board. When the whole board is wet out, remove pooling on the deck by your squeegee.

Remember that you have to work fast and don't spend to much time on details. And please stop once the resin begins to jell.
