The 10G optical module is a fiber optic transceiver that can send and receive 10G data signals per second. According to the different packaging, 10G optical transceiver can be divided into XENPAK optical module, X2 optical transceiver, and XFP fiber optic transceiver and SFP+ fiber module. Which one is the best among these optical modules?

1, XENPAK optical transceiver: XENPAK is the first generation packaging standard of 10G fiber optic transceiver. The volume and power consumption of the optical module are relatively large, but we have to admit that it is an important step in the development of 10G optical transceiver.

2, The X2 fiber optic transceiver is developed by the XENPAK optical module, which is mainly used for switch, router and network port with Ethernet X2 port. XFP optical transceiver is a kind of hot pluggable and small circuit board fiber module, which can save cost and power in the application of 10G network.

3, SFP+ optical transceiver: Five years later after the first 10G optical transceiver standard was released, a new MSA standard was released. It is called "SFP+". This standard is the most widely adopted standard of modern 10G fiber optic transceiver. The reason why this standard is so popular is mainly for three reasons.

(1) compatibility: SFP+ optical transceiver has same size with the SFP fiber optical transceiver, therefore, the SFP+ port can be used with any of the foregoing fiber optic transceiver;

(2) Small size: Size of SFP+ optical module is 1/10 of XENPAK optical transceiver and same as common SFP fiber transceiver.

(3) low cost: SFP+ fiber optic transceiver can use various specifications of SFP standard, and the standard technology has been very mature, so the manufacturing cost of the new SFP+ optical module is low, and the SFP+ optical transceiver is with very low power consumption and this also helps to save cost.
