Gigabit fiber media converter (also known as Ethernet converter) is a kind of Fast Ethernet equipment, the data transmission rate can be up to 1Gbps, it is still using the CSMA/CD access control mechanism and is compatible with the existing Ethernet cabling system, under the support of cabling system, fiber media converter can make a smooth upgrade of the original fast Ethernet and can fully protect the user's original investment. Gigabit technology has become the preferred technology of new network and transformation. Although the performance requirements of the generic cabling system are also improved, it is convenient for users to use and upgrade later

The standard of Gigabit Ethernet is made by IEEE 802.3, and there are two wiring standards: 802.3z and 802.3ab. 802.3ab is wiring standard is based on the twisted pairs, using 4 pairs Cat5 UTP wires, the maximum transmission distance is up to 100m. 802.3z is standard based on fiber channel, and there are three kinds of media used.

A) 1000Base-LX specification: this specification is the parameter of multimode and single mode fiber used for long distance. The transmission distance of the multimode fiber is 300m ( or 550 meters), and the transmission distance of the single mode fiber is 3000 meters. The specification requires fiber media converter with relatively expensive long wave laser.

B) 1000Base-SX specification: the specification is the parameters of multimode fiber of short distance the media converter uses MM fiber and short wave CD (compact disc) or VCSEL laser and the transmission distance is up to 300m ( or 550 meters) .

C) 1000BASE-CX specification: using short distance shielded twisted pair STP, its transmission distance is 25m, which is mainly used to connect high-performance servers and high-speed peripherals between distribution lines by using short patch cords.

5, Support QoS to ensure VOIP packet transmission;
