GPON technology is a new generation of broadband passive optical access standard based on the ITU-TG.984.x standard and the available bandwidth is about 1111Mbit/s, although the technology is complex, but it is with high bandwidth, high efficiency, wide coverage, rich user interface etc., some operators in America and Europe take it as an ideal technology to realize the broadband access network services.
EPON (Ethernet passive optical network) is a new type of optical access network technology, the total effective uplink transmission bandwidth is 1000Mbit/s, a point to multipoint architecture and passive optical transmission, can provide a variety of services over Ethernet, the comprehensive advantages of PON technology and Ethernet technology is with low cost, high bandwidth, strong scalability and have good compatibility with the existing Ethernet, convenient for management, etc., in Asia, such as China and Japan etc. are widely used.
No matter which type of PON optical fiber system, are formed by three parts, OLT (Optical Line Terminal), POS (Passive optical splitter) and ONU (optical network unit) and its network management system. And these parts are installed by the ISP installer, and the home users generally do not have their own conditions to erect them.
