Optical fiber network is gradually replacing copper network because of its high speed, high density, high bandwidth and other advantages. 1, Fiber type: Generally speaking, the maximum transmission distance of optical signal in optical fiber will be affected by the dispersion of optical fiber. Mode dispersion is the main factor affecting the transmission distance of multimode fiber. Waveguide dispersion is the main limiting factor in single-mode fibers. This is because the core of single-mode fiber is much smaller than multimode fiber. This is also the reason why single-mode fibers can transmit farther distances than multimode fibers.

2, Laser of optical transceiver: The conversion quality of the optical transceiver to the photoelectric signal is largely determined by its internal light source. Light sources in optical modules generally use LED (light emitting diode) or laser diode. Their quality will directly affect the transmission distance of the optical signal.

3, Transmission frequency: Different laser sources support different frequencies. The frequency of optical signal will affect the transmission distance of optical fiber transmission system. Generally speaking, the higher the frequency is, the farther the transmission distance is. Therefore, choosing the appropriate frequency is very important for transmitting optical signals.

4, Bandwidth: is another important factor that can affect the transmission distance. In most cases, the transmission distance is inversely proportional to the increase of bandwidth.

5, Fiber splicing point: In optical network, the connection of optical fiber is essential. Generally, there are two connection ways of optical fiber: thermal splicing (fusion splicing) and cold splicing, and optical fiber connector or fast connector. The optical loss is easy to occur when the signal passes through these fiber splice points, which will affect the transmission distance of the optical signal.
