In specific functions, OLT is placed at the ISP central office, responsible for controlling the connection, management and maintenance of the channel. Maximum transmission distance between OLT and ONU is more than 10-20km, OLT has a set of functions ranging to test the logical distance between each ONU and OLT, and to adjust its signal transmission delay according to the command of Optical Network Unit , so the signal sent to different distance ONU can be multiplexed together accurately in OLT. OLT devices generally have bandwidth allocation function, and can allocate specific bandwidth by OLT according to the needs of ONU (Optical Network Unit). Moreover, OLT devices have the characteristics of multi point hub, a OLT can be with max. 32pcs downlink ONU(and subsequent extension), all ONU each OLT following by time-division multiplexing 1G bandwidth sharing, each ONU can provide the maximum downlink bandwidth of 1Gbps.
Optical Network Unit (ONU) is a device that is used to access the end user or corridor switch at the user end. It uses a single optical fiber to multiplex the data of multiple ONU to a OLT port through a passive optical splitter. Because of the tree topology structure of point to multipoint, the input of the convergence device is reduced, and the network level is more clear. Most of the ONU device itself has a certain function of switches, the uplink interface is PON interface, it is connected to OLT interface board through the passive optical splitter, and via 1-32pcs 100M or even Gigabit RJ45 port, its downlink is connected to different data devices, such as switches, routers, broadband, telephone, computer IP set-top box to realize point to multipoint rapid deployment.
