With the intelligent fiber optic transceiver, the network management unit can monitor temperature, supply voltage, the laser bias current and the transmitting and receiving optical power in real time. The measurement of these parameters can help the management unit find out the fault position in the optical fiber link, simplify the maintenance work and improve the reliability of the system.

The Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM, fault diagnosis function) of optical transceiver provides a means for monitoring the performance of the system, can help the system management predict use life of the fiber optic transceiver, isolate system fault and verify compatibility during installation.

1, Digital potentiometer (or ADC) instead of traditional adjustment resistor, access and read and write through serial data bus I2C ;

2, EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable read only memory) space composed of two space A0h and A2h: A0h is used to hold the fixed information; and A2h is mainly used to store the information related to the DDM monitoring function.

3, The module has monitoring function. Can report the real-time monitoring of temperature, power supply voltage, bias current, transmit power and receive power;

4, The fiber optic transceiver is with diagnostic function. The module monitors 5 reporting parameters of the module by appropriate excuse and judge if it is within the normal range . As specified in SFF-8472, each parameter has two levels of alarm, called Alarm and Warning alarms respectively, and each stage is divided into two alarms High and Low.
