Ferrosilicon is an alloy composed primarily of iron (Fe) and silicon (Si). It is produced by melting a mixture of iron ore, silicon dioxide, and coke or charcoal in an electric arc furnace. The resulting alloy is commonly used as a deoxidizer and an alloying agent in the production of steel, as well as in other industrial applications.
Function
Ferrosilicon is an indispensable deoxidizer in steelmaking industry. In torch steel, ferrosilicon is used for precipitation deoxidation and diffusion deoxidation. Brick iron is also used as an alloying agent in steelmaking.
