Description
Graphite Petroleum Coke (GPC) is a byproduct of the oil refining process. It is a carbon-rich material that is used as a carbon raiser in steel and foundry industries. GPC is also used as a refractory material in the production of various alloys.
As a carbon raiser, GPC is added to molten steel or iron to increase its carbon content, which improves its strength and hardness. It also lowers the melting point of steel, making it easier to cast. GPC is preferred over other carbon raisers because of its low sulfur and ash content, which reduces the risk of impurities in the final product.
In foundries, GPC is used as a fuel and as a filler in sand molds. Its high carbon content and low ash content make it an ideal material for this purpose.
