Hydrogen fluoride is a basic raw material in the fluorine chemical industry for manufacturing a variety of inorganic and organic fluoride. It is usually made from fluorite acting with sulfuric acid. Anhydrous hydrogen fluoride is used as the manufacture of the refrigerant "fluoron" as well as fluoride compounds as a catalyst for high octane gasoline, cleaning stainless steel, removing type sand on metal castings, refining special metals such as beryllium and uranium, and also as a catalyst for organic synthesis. Water-containing hydrogen fluoride is usually used as a corrosive agent for carved glass and pottery, but also for synthetic pesticides or fungicides, etc.
