Lithium-ion batteries have a major difference from Lead Acid batteries when it comes to balancing the voltages in each individual cell during charging. In Lead Acid batteries if one cell charges faster and reaches full voltage,
the typical low end of the charge current, will ensure the other cells get fully charge. So the Lead Acid batteries are self-equalizing during charge. This is not the case with Lithium Batteries.
When a Lithium-ion cell is fully charged, it’s voltage begins to rise further which may lead to electrode damage.
If the charge of the entire battery is stopped when only one cell is fully charged, the remaining cells do not reach full charge and the battery will operate below peak capacity.
A well designed BMS ensures each cell will safely and fully charge before the entire charging process is complete.
Unlike Lead Acid batteries, Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries operate efficiently and safely at temperatures up to 60 degrees Celsius or more. But higher operating or storage temperatures will lead to the electrode material degrading.
The BMS of a Lithium battery uses embedded thermistors to actively monitor the temperature during operation and will disconnect if the maximum temperature is reached. They also vary in how much current they can handle.
The most reliable BMS systems will be rated at 100 amps, despite the battery rating being declared at for instance 50AH or 80 AH or 100AH.
So a good question to ask the Retailer or check the specification sheet before purchasing. If they dont know or its missing from the Spec sheet then its a warning sign.

Wiring precautions:
1. Installing the protective board requires a certain amount of technical electronic knowledge.
2. When wiring, first connect the B- wire at the soldering pad position to the total negative terminal of the battery (the B- wire should be soldered to a short and thick wire) and solder the wired terminal to the battery pack first, and then insert the protective plate.
3. The connection between the battery terminal B- and the protection board terminal B- should be short and thick, otherwise it will cause the protection board to charge and discharge in advance and malfunction.
4. You need to use thick wires when wiring P+/P-. Wires that are too thin and too long will burn the board!
