Wheelchair Rugby competition rules

Players
The rules of wheelchair rugby incorporate the characteristics of sports like basketball, football and ice hockey. Each team shall have a maximum of 12 players. Each team shall have no more than 4 players on the field at the same time. The combined disabled points of four players on the field cannot exceed 8 points.

Kick-off
The game begins with the umpire throwing the ball in the center circle of the playing area. The referee shall throw the ball up vertically between two opposing players at a height greater than either player can reach. The ball must not fall until either of them touches it, otherwise it will have to start again. The rest of the team should stay in their respective positions outside the center circle.

The game time
The official game of wheelchair rugby consists of 4 quarters of 8 minutes each, with 1 minute rest after the 1st and 3rd quarters. Take a 5 minute break after the 2nd quarter. If there is a draw, there will be three minutes of extra time. Each team will have 4 timeouts in each game and 1 timeout of 1 minute in overtime.

Score
Similar to the 3-second zone on a basketball court, there is a restricted zone near the baseline on both sides of the wheelchair football field. The defender is allowed to have three players in the box, while the attacker cannot stay in the box for more than 10 seconds. At the end of the game, the one with the most points wins. During the game, one point is scored as long as the attacking player controls the ball and both wheels of the wheelchair pass the goal line in the defending team's goal area.

Score

Penalty
During play, serve from the sideline or goal line after a goal, foul, timeout or interruption. An offensive foul is called off, a defensive foul is called off for one minute (the fouls are in the penalty box), and the penalty is terminated early if the opponent scores. When a player holds the ball and is in the scoring position for a foul, the referee has the right to award the attacking team one point and cancel the defensive foul for one minute.
