Sodium Metabisulphite is a white crystalline powder with a pungent sulphur odour. Widley used as an antioxidant to control bacterial growth and prevent discolouration by bleaching agents. It is used commonly with prawns, fresh fruit and vegetables to prevent browning and in soft drinks, wine, beer and dried foods.
Sodium Metabisulphite is a salt of sulphurous acid. Its main use is as an anti-browning agent to prevent the enzymatic and bacterial spoilage of food. It is an alternative to sulphur dioxide which is used in sterilization of equipment. Some of its other common uses are within the Leather processing, food and beverage processing, gas purification, water treatment (removes excess chlorine), textiles and pulp processing.
Sodium Metabisulfite (SMBS)
Sodium Metabisulfiate(SMBS) is mainly used as reduction agent. Furthermore, sodium metabisulfite is ideal for the bleaching of vegetable fibers and textile, for the production of solutions, which are used in the developing of photos and films as well as for the treatment of tanning agents in dyeing of textiles.
