Rig mats made of corrosion-resistant material for drilling rig at oilfield

Rig mats are usually made of natural wood and the H beam or I beam. According to different requirements, there are larch wood, the coniferous pin wood, and the beam can be 140H beam or 180H beam, and the 200 I beam, etc.. To confirm rig matting boards, we need to consider the mat length, width, and the height. The main structure is steel beam. Then the wood beam will be inserted into the frame tight to make sure the sufficient strength and stabilizability.

What is the structure of the rig mattings?

There are wood beams, the steel beams, the mounting bolts and other auxiliary parts. Such as the loading log or ring, the strengthen rod at 2 ends. Usually we'll use the H beam since the H beam is more even and easy to fabricate whole rig mattings. The beams of wood should be insterted into the steel frame made of H beam.

Wood beam can be the larch or the conifer. But they both should be processed as the cuboid beam. And all of the beams used for rig mattings will be treated for the anti-corrosion effect. This will help to get a strong support and a safe working condition. How to confirm the rig matting size? Based on the general area of our working site. Then try to divide all of the rigs evenly with same size rig mats.

We know well drilling is outdoor activity. Many drilling site place condition varies from each other. The drilling rig mat can help us to get a relative flat ground. Rig mats can be new round or platform. We can put the rig and solids control system on it for safe condition. According to general area of drilling sites we can divide the mats into many smaller pieces. For example, the total area request mats is about 210m². We can use mats sized about 2x1.5m or 2x3.5m. And according to loading requirements, we decide to select steel beam size and the wood beam.

Common sizes are 8’x10’, 8' x 20', 8' x 30', and 8' x 40'. The size is also flexible and custom-designed. One great advantage is the ease of repairing the wooden inserts which gives new life to an already long lasting and durable mat
