Components of European Hoist Single Girder Overhead Crane
Bridge - The bridge is the horizontal beam that spans the width of the bay. It moves along runway rails mounted on the tops of the building columns. The bridge supports the trolley and hoist.
End Carriages - The end carriages are mounted on each end of the bridge. They contain the wheels that ride on the runway rails. They allow the bridge to move along the length of the bay.
Trolley - The trolley rides along rails on top of the bridge. It supports the hoist and allows it to move across the width of the bay.
Hoist - The hoist is suspended from the trolley. It lifts and lowers the load using a wire rope and an electric motor. The hoist can be a hook hoist, magnet hoist or grab hoist depending on the application.
Runway Rails - The runway rails are mounted to the tops of the building columns to support the bridge.
Electric control system - An electric control system is used to precisely control the motion of the bridge, trolley and hoist. The operator uses a control pendant to control the crane.
Various safety features - European cranes are equipped with various safety features like limit switches, brakes, overload protection, etc. to ensure safe operation.
Support structure - The support structure includes the building columns and beam supports on which the runway rails are mounted. They transfer all the weight and dynamic loads of the crane to the ground.
