Description

1. Hot melt glue sticks are typically made from thermoplastic polymers. The most common base polymers include ethylene - vinyl acetate (EVA), polyamide (nylon), and polyester. EVA - based glue sticks are widely used due to their good adhesive properties and relatively low cost. Polyamide - based glue sticks offer excellent heat resistance and high strength, while polyester - based ones have good chemical resistance.

2. In addition to the base polymer, various additives are incorporated. These include tackifiers, which enhance the stickiness of the glue; plasticizers, which improve the flexibility of the adhesive; antioxidants, to prevent the glue from degrading due to oxidation; and fillers such as calcium carbonate or talc, which can adjust the viscosity and other physical properties of the glue while also reducing costs.

3. Hot melt glue sticks are solid at room temperature, which makes them easy to store and handle. They are usually cylindrical in shape, with a diameter that can vary from a few millimeters to over a centimeter, depending on the intended use. The length of the glue sticks also varies, but a common length is around 7 - 10 inches (18 - 25 cm).

4.When heated, hot melt glue sticks have a specific melting point that depends on their composition. For EVA - based glue sticks, the melting point is usually around 150 - 180°F (65 - 82°C). The viscosity of the molten glue is also an important property. It determines how easily the glue can flow and spread. Glue with a lower viscosity will spread more quickly and thinly, while glue with a higher viscosity will form a thicker layer.

5.Glue sticks come in a variety of colors, including transparent, white, and various shades of colored glue. The color can sometimes indicate the type of polymer used or the specific application it is designed for. For example, transparent glue sticks are often preferred for applications where aesthetics are important, such as in crafts or some packaging applications.
