Potentiostat for electrocatalysis CS350M is an ideal tool for the electrocatalysis studies, such as HER, OER, ORR, CO2RR, NRR etc. Max. current is ±2A, which is excellent for electrocatalysis requiring higher current than some other fields. Potential range is ±10V. Compliance voltage is ±21V(ideal for some H-cells electrocatalysis systems). EIS frequency range is 10uHz~1MHz. Potentiostat for electrocatalysis CS350M consists of high power high precision potentiostat, galvanostat, DDS arbitrary function generator, dual-channel correlation analyzer, dual-channel high-speed 16bit/high-precision 24bit AD converter and extension interfaces. Besides electrocatalysis, potentiostat for electrocatalysis CS350M can also be used for corrosion measurement, energy &battery testing, materials, sensors, electrodeposition etc. The current can be boosted up to 20A/40A/100A with the corresponding current booster. We have CS350MA version with customized ±30V compliance voltage, which is especially useful when the testing cell voltage is high for some experiment such as CO2RR.

Electro-catalysis

● Potentiostat for electrocatalysis CS350M can measure the half-wave potential (ORR), overpotential (HER, OER) of the catalyst, and has the function of peak power density and energy density calculation.

Q: How to check and judge if the potentiostat for electrocatalysis CS350M works normally?

A: You can use the dummy cell(we provide it along with the potentiostat) to judge whether the potentiostat for electrocatalysis CS350M works normally. The dummy cell is a simulation standard cell. You can do the potentiostatic, galavanostatic, eis experiment and check the value of the potential and current. They should obey the Ohm law.

 

Q: For water splitting, why is solution usually strong acid and alkaline systems, with very few neutral systems?

A: Now PEM water splitting also uses CCM coating technology, just like fuel cells. A bonded catalyst using proton conductors is used to conduct protons, and the catalyst is in an acidic environment. Taking Nafion as an example, the environment of the catalyst is equivalent to about 10% sulfuric acid.

 

Q: After completing the LSV test of OER, the open circuit voltage (used for AC impedance testing) remains unstable and the voltage reading keeps decreasing. What should I do?

A: After polarization, the material is in an unstable state. Waiting longer till it gets stable, or do potentiostatic treatment.

 

Q: How to characterize the stability and activity content of ORR catalysts with a potentiostat for electrocatalysis CS350M?

A: Run a CV cycle, comparing CV and LSV before and after, for instance 30000 cycles;

Measure the i-t curve;

Take TEM images before and after stability to see if the catalyst has agglomerated.

 

Q: For HER and OER, should the catalyst be hydrophilic or hydrophobic?

A: Hydrophilic and aerophobic are the best. Hydrophilicity allows the electrolyte to fully infiltrate the catalyst, while aerophobic allows the generated gas to quickly detach from the catalyst surface.

 

Q: How to set the LSV scan rate for ORR, HER, and OER?

A: For ORR, 5 mV/s is better, and 10 mV/s is also OK. If the scan rate is too high, the background will be large; if it is too low, the influence of imnrrpurities will be big.For OER/HER, 5 mV/s or 2 mV/s is better. Different materials should have an optimized scan rate. If the material has a large specific surface area, such as carbon materials, the scan rate needs to be appropriately reduced to lessen the capacitance background.
