Why 201 stainless steel is cheaper than 304?

201 stainless steel, a relatively inexpensive alternative material to the traditionally 304 stainless steel.

The 201 stainless steel sheet does have its advantages over its competitors, it uses a less amount of Cr and nickel content.

This leads to less wastage in the making of joints as well as a reduction in the cost of production.

In spite of this though the stainless steel sheet loses some of its hardness and ductility when compared to 304 stainless steel.

How to distinguish 304 and 201 for stainless steel sheet metal fabrication?

304 stainless steel sheet is often used in the inner layer such as in direct contact with water because of its excellent corrosion resistance.

201 stainless steel sheet is often used in the outer layer of an insulated water tank because of its poor corrosion resistance.

However, 201 is cheaper than 304, which is often used by some bad businesses as 304.

The service life of stainless steel water tanks made of 201 stainless steel is very short, and they are often corroded by water in 1-2 years, leaving potential safety hazards to users.

NO.1 Stainless Steel Finish

No.1 is a rough, dull and non-uniform finish, which results from hot rolling to the specified thickness, followed by annealing and descaling.
