Brown corundum is a type of abrasive that is made from bauxite, coke (anthracite) and iron filings. These raw materials are put into an arc furnace and smelted at high temperatures to produce the final product. This abrasive blasting material has many advantages, including short grinding time, high efficiency, good benefit, and low price. The product has moderate hardness, high toughness, and good self-sharpening properties, making it a popular choice for abrasive blasting processes.
The chemical composition of brown corundum is stable, which gives it excellent wear-resistance and resistance to both acid and alkali substances. Its unique conchoidal structure and sharp edges allow it to form new edges and corners during continuous grinding. This means that it has a better grinding ability than other abrasives. Brown corundum is also known for its high hardness, big specific gravity, stable chemical properties and unique self-sharpening, making it ideal for achieving a matte effect and removing rust, oxidation and welding slag from workpieces.
Brown corundum has many desirable properties, including high purity, good crystallization, strong fluidity, low coefficient of linear expansion and corrosion resistance. Dozens of fire-resistant production companies have verified that this product has the characteristics of no explosion, no chalking, and no cracking in the application process. Its cost-effectiveness is also higher than that of traditional brown corundum, making it the best aggregate and filler for fused alumina refractories.
Brown corundum is a popular choice for sandblasting surface treatment due to its relatively high density, which results in less dust during the sandblasting process. In comparison, slag has a glass phase structure that makes it quite brittle and easy to be crushed into small particles during the grinding and sandblasting processes. Hence brown corundum is considered a very fast spray grinding method.
