High Density Tungsten Wire For Filament And High Speed Cutting Alloy Steel
Introduction
Tungsten wire, a fine wire made from forging and drawing tungsten bars. It is mainly used in incandescent lamp, halogen lamp and other electric light sources. The tungsten wires used as luminescent materials in bulbs also require a small amount of potassium, silicon, and aluminum oxides to be doped into the smelting process. The tungsten wires are called Doped Tungsten Wire, or Non-sag Tungsten Wire. The tungsten wire is usually drawn by various wire drawing dies. Mainly used for making filaments and high-speed cutting alloy steel, also used in optical instruments, chemical instruments and other functions.

Application
Most tungsten wires are used to make filaments for various incandescent and halogen tungsten lamps and electrodes for gas discharge lamps, except a small amount of them are used as heating materials for high temperature furnaces, electron tube heaters and reinforcing ribs for composite materials. For tungsten wire or tungsten rod used as cathode of gas discharge lamp, 0.5-3% thorium must be added to reduce the work of electron escape, which is called tungsten thorium wire. Because thorium is a radioactive element that pollutes the environment, cerium is used instead of thorium to form tungsten-cerium wires or tungsten-cerium rods. However, the evaporation rate of cerium is high, so tungsten cerium wire or tungsten cerium rod can only be used for low power gas discharge lamps.
Once the tungsten wire is recrystallized at high temperature, it becomes brittle and easily breaks under impact or vibration. In order to prevent the filament from breaking, 3-5% rhenium is often added to the doped tungsten filament, which is called tungsten-rhenium filament. It can reduce the ductile-brittle transition temperature of tungsten to below room temperature. This is a very strange rhenium effect, and no element has been found to replace rhenium in tungsten to produce the same effect.
Tungsten has good acid and alkali resistance at room temperature, but it is easy to be oxidized in humid air, so fine tungsten wire can not be stored in humid environment for long. In addition, tungsten begins to react with carbon to form tungsten carbide at about 1200 C, so attention should be paid to this problem in hydrogen burning treatment of filament, otherwise tungsten reacts with graphite lubricant on its surface, the filament will become brittle fracture.
