Biogas is produced after the decomposition of organic materials (plant and animal products) in an anaerobic environment (environment without oxygen) to release a gas mixture (mainly methane and carbon dioxide). Due to the high methane concentration in biogas (usually 50-65%), it is rich in energy and can be used as a fuel source.
Anaerobic digestion process
Anaerobic digestion is a series of biological processes in which microorganisms break down biodegradable materials in the absence of oxygen. One of the end products is biogas, which is burned to generate electricity and heat, or can be processed into renewable natural gas and transportation fuels

In a continuous process, the process breaks down organic matter into volatile acids, which then produce biogas and stable digestates, thereby reducing the pollution load of industrial or agricultural processes.
