Soft Felt - Graphite Felt
Polyacrylonitrile-based graphite felt is stronger and more resistant to oxidation than viscose-based graphite felt, but it has poor flexibility, large bulk density, and good thermal insulation performance. In addition to their high purity, high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and non-melting characteristics, they also have the advantages of elasticity, foldability, tailoring, and sewing with graphite yarn. The main use of graphite felt is as a thermal insulation material for single crystal silicon smelting furnace. In the chemical industry, it can be used as a filter material for high purity corrosive chemical reagents. Under a non-oxidizing atmosphere, the temperature of the graphite felt can reach 3000 ℃.

Carbon felt becomes graphite felt after being treated under high temperature above 2000 ℃ under vacuum or inert atmosphere, its carbon content is higher than carbon felt, up to 99%. At the end of the 1960s, there was already a supply of graphite felt in the world. Graphite felts are classified into three types: pitch-based, polyacrylonitrile-based graphite felts and viscose-based graphite felt due to the different raw felts.
