What is a hub centric ring?

The centric ring is a device used with the rims and are installed between the car wheel hub and the rim. The purpose of the hub centric ring is to fill the empty space between the wheel hub and the center bore of the rim. Centric rings are usually made of durable industrial plastic. Centric rings are also made of aluminum.

What are centric rings needed for?
Centric rings are needed when the hub hole (the center bore) on the rim is larger than the wheel hub of the car. The rim manufacturers deliberately make the hub ring as large as possible for the rim, taking in to consideration the hub hole, to allow the same rims to be sold for the various different models of car using hub centric rings.

Centric rings are usually needed only for post-sale rims, since the original rims usually come with a center bore of the right size. Usually the hub centric rings are used with alloy wheels, but sometimes steel rims may need hub centric rings.
The purpose of the centric ring is to perfectly center the alloy wheel to the wheel hub and hence prevent vibration to the steering wheel during driving and the shaking which typically appears around speeds of 40-60 mph.

How to choose the right size centric ring

The size of the centric rim depends on two things: the center bore of the rim and the outer diameter of the car’s wheel hub. For example, if the diameter of the wheel hub is 72.6 mm, and the wheel center bore is 74.1 mm, a centric ring with a diameter of 1.5 mm is needed in-between, so the right size is 74.1 - 72.6 mm.

1. Measuring the center bore of the rim: Typically, the rims have no indication of the center bore, so you must discover it yourself. If the rim is new, you may find the size on the receipt or from the salesman, otherwise you must measure the hole yourself. Because slide calipers usually don’t fit inside a wheel, the measurement must be made using a ruler or a tape measure. Measure, as accurately as possible, the size of the wheel center bore and choose the nearest size from the table. The size of the wheel center bore is the bigger dimension of the ring, i.e. the outer measurement.
   
   Tip: When measuring the wheel center bore you may use a piece of paper on which you mark the inside of the bore as carefully as possible and then measure the distance from the paper, using a tape measure, for example.
    
2. Measuring the wheel hub of the car: The size of the car wheel hub is usually indicated in the user’s manual for the car. This can be easily found by asking the representative of the particular car make, retailer or making an internet search. The inner measurement of the wheel hub is also easy to measure; remove the wheel and measure the wheel hub outer diameter with a slide caliper. A tape measure or a ruler can also be used for measuring. Measure the outer diameter as accurately as possible and choose the nearest size from the size table. The size of the car wheel hub is the smaller, inner size of the fitting ring.
    
3. If your measurements are not sufficiently close (~0.5 mm) to the stock sizes, your size is rare and this should then be customized. A customized set may be ordered by entering the measurements, as accurately as possible, on the customized order field found on our front page. If you order a customized set, the measurements must also be accurate.

Hub rings are extremely easy to install, just follow the next instructions!

Clean the center bores of the rims and the wheel hubs of the car. Push the centric rim to the center bore of the rim. It is important to ensure that the ring is properly positioned. When the centric ring is attached to the rim, install the wheel onto the car.

1. Lift your car with a floor jack until you have raised the wheel on which you want to install the hub ring off the ground. Support the car with a jack stand when the wheel has enough clearance for you to remove it from the car.
    
2. Break the lug nuts off the wheel using a four-way tool. Remove each of the nuts from around the rim so you can release the wheel from the car.
    
3. Pull the wheel off the car using both hands. If your wheel has become rusted or dirty, you may feel some resistance; pull the wheel off firmly.
    
4. Run an emery cloth around the hub in the middle of the lug bolts to clean it. The ring will fit tightly on the hub; if any dirt or residue remains, you won't be able to get it onto the hub.
    
5. Hold the hub ring right in front of the hub, and slide it on. Check to ensure the ring is fully seated on the hub to complete installation. Install any remaining hub rings in the same way.
