Gas struts are commonly fitted to the vehicle tailgate, rear door, boot and sometimes the bonnet. They are usually fitted in pairs but a single gas strut may be fitted on some models. Gas struts are specific to individual vehicles and the length, stroke and force are important when purchasing. The length is usually measured between the ball fitting centres and the force is measured in Newton meters Nm, this will be printed on the original unit. Barrel and rod diameter will vary on different models.
