Thermostat
The thermostat is basically a valve between the engine and the radiator. When the coolant in the engine gets too hot, this valve opens, letting it pass to the radiator where it will cool down. If it is not heated, the thermostat stays closed, allowing the coolant to continue circulating inside the block.
What happens when a car thermostat goes bad?
A faulty thermostat will result in strange temperature changes during engine operation. In this case, the thermostat will not get stuck in one position, but there will still be false readings causing control issues. The engine temperature will change unpredictably and the radiator coolant will not flow normally.
What will happen if thermostat is removed?
In a car without a thermostat, your engine will never reach its optimal operating temperature and your heater can blow away some cold air either. A malfunctioning thermostat causes your engine to think it is warm outside, causing it to adjust the gas mixing valve and fuel to get more fuel out.
