The myoglobin molecule is a flat prism with a molecular size of about 4.5mm×3.5mm×2.5m. The polypeptide backbone in the molecule is composed of 8 straight a-helices of varying lengths. The longest helix contains 23 residues and the shortest 7 residues. Almost 80% of the amino acid residues in the molecule are in the α-helix region. .
