BNP is mainly synthesized and secreted by ventricular myocytes, and the changes of ventricular load and wall tension are the main conditions to stimulate BNP secretion. There are two ways to clear BNP: one is mediated by the C-type receptor of the natriuretic peptide family, which is degraded by lysosomes after being endocytosed into the cell; the other is degradation by neutral endopeptidase (NEP).
