The acquisition of forest parameters depends on field sampling and field measurement by field operators, and the means used are only limited to relatively original measuring instruments such as handheld altimeter, DBH ruler and tape measure. Traditional technology is time-consuming and laborious, and can only obtain the information of small-scale forest area, and the investigation scope is not comprehensive. The rapid development of remote sensing technology brings hope for the realization of efficient and large-area forest resources investigation. However, due to the reality that optical remote sensing images can not "penetrate" the forest canopy and obtain forest vertical structure information, the available effective stand parameters are limited. With the gradual maturity of LiDAR technology in the field of forestry application, a breakthrough has been made in quantitatively obtaining forest tree height, DBH, forest volume and other parameters that are difficult to obtain by traditional remote sensing methods.
HiSLAM 3D laser scanner can quickly switch to backpack mode. For the weak GNSS signal environment of forest land, it can also realize the rapid scanning of point cloud data of large area of forest land even without GNSS signal. In addition, the mature stand parameter point cloud data processing algorithm can realize automatic segmentation of single tree point cloud, and rapid extraction of single tree height, DBH, crown width and other parameters. Thus it provides a new investigation method for efficient investigation of forest resources.
